Moth Orchid
A moth orchid is a common name for the Phalaenopsis flower. This is one species of orchid among thousands; however, is one of the most popular. They begin to bloom in the months of December through May and are available for purchase then. This may be a reason they are popular, because they bloom during different time periods than most other flowers.
The moth orchid comes in a variety of different colors including, lavender, pink, white, and yellow, displaying solid and spotted color patterns as well. This flower is often chosen for weddings due to its versatility. It can have an exotic appearance, or when paired with peonies and roses can exude elegance.
The moth orchid requires bright light to sustain a healthy appearance. An east or west facing widow is ideal; however, if the climate is generally overcast, consider the direct light in a south facing window. Phalaenopsis should not be overwatered. A general rule of thumb is to thoroughly water the soil but leaving no standing water, wait five to ten days or until the soil is dry but not neglected, and then water again.
