Orchid Care

Orchid care tips include a few things that are pertinent for the optimum health and life expectancy of the flower. Although each species differs in their specific needs, there are a few general rules to follow. Although many orchids are native to tropical environments, they should not be overwatered. Water them every five to ten days depending on the temperature of the environment and amount of sunlight they receive as well.

Orchid care largely depends on the potting system. Regardless of the medium used for a container, it needs to contain a drainage system that will help prevent waterlog. There are thousands of orchid species and each one will flourish in specific environments, so for flower traits to fully develop, research specifics regarding plant needs.

Proper orchid care is also very dependent on the amount of light they receive. Again, it is case specific; however, a good indication of proper lighting is the color of the leaves. They should be a bright vibrant green as opposed to a dark green which indicates the plant isn’t receiving enough light. If this is an issue, move the plant to a window that receives sunlight from a west or south facing window as it is more intense light.
